As a Board member of the Bucks County chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Dr. Abel coordinated the formation of the Salisbury Behavioral Health Walk Team in 2012 and 2013 and raised important funds for those with severe mental illness. In 2014, Dr. Abel formed a new team, "Together We Are Abel." In 2015 and 2016, Dr. Abel walked in the Stride For Mental Health Awareness at Fonthill Park in Doylestown with NAMI of Bucks County.
Since 2007, Dr. Abel has volunteered as a basketball coach for his sons' local league teams. Having a positive impact on kids, whether it's on the court or in the office, is what makes Dr. Abel tick. He greatly enjoys the opportunity to teach kids how to improve their game through practice and perseverance, while watching them gain self-confidence that enhances their self-esteem. Helping kids learn how to become more resilient by making adjustments after a defeat, and then responding with even more effort is a critical lesson that will serve them well throughout life.
Dr. Abel enjoys coaching basketball and experiencing life's lessons alongside the kids. Practice and perseverance lead to improved self-confidence and enhanced self-esteem. Resiliency is a key to long-term success.
"Thank you Coach Abel for your dedication, compassion and sportsmanship. You're a great coach and you really did build confidence in my son. I'm glad he was on your team and I feel he learned a lot more than just basketball from you."
